Brazil reached an agreement with the European Union (EU) to increase its quota for exports to the region of fresh and frozen chicken as well as sugar. This measure is compensation after Croatia joined the EU, since previously, Brazil was able to trade more with Croatia. The quota on chicken and turkey will be increased by 4,766 tons and 610 tons respectively with complete tariff exemption. Sugar producers in the northeast of Brazil will enjoy a quota increase of 78,000 tons. There is another quota of 36,000 tons that can be used by Brazil or any other sugar exporter
to the region.
Siderúrgica do Pecém (CSP) began exporting steel sheets on Tuesday (26/07). It exported 20,000 tons to its partner company, Dongkuk, in South Korea. CSP has an annual production capacity of 3.2m tons of liquid steel and 3m tons of semi-finished sheets.
Vale has a 50% stake in CSP, followed by Dongkuk with 30% and Posco owning 20%. Bunge and AMAGGI are expanding the partnership they initiated in 2014, when they formed the joint venture ‘Unitapajós’ to operate in the ’North Corridor’ via the Tapajós- Amazonas waterway. It is expected that AMAGGI will acquire 50% of Mirituba’s transshipment hub and the Barcarena terminal – assets that are part of Bunge’s Mirituba- Barcarena port complex. CADE is currently analyzing the deal. This expansion of the partnership does not change the current business activities or the current flow of grain operations.
Suape exported more than 23,000 vehicles in the first half of 2016 – a 300% year-on-year rise. Argentina was the main recipient of the shipments, importing over 9,000 units.
